Statement from the Small Arms Survey at the Preparatory Meeting of States on the Global Framework for Through-life Conventional Ammunition Management
Having been involved in the Open-Ended Working Group on Ammunition, the Small Arms Survey supports the GFA and its effective implementation through the provision of timely data and analysis as well as stakeholder engagement. Through these activities and its work on ammunition management through research, policy support and training, the Survey believes the following points are key topics for this, and future GFA meetings.
- Sharing technical expertise in data collection and standardisation.
- Encouraging data sharing on unplanned explosions at munitions sites (UEMS).
- Promoting ammunition marking, record-keeping, profiling, and tracing.
- Supporting coherence between the GFA, and regional and national implementation frameworks.
- Promoting the full, equal, meaningful and effective participation of women in all GFA-related activities.
